Let’s be honest. Summer is for three things: reading, reading, and—oh wait—there’s
just more reading. But when the sun’s out and your to-be-read pile looks like a delicious buffet, there’s only one thing on your to-do list. Whether you're under a tree annotating a book or protecting your paperback from the poolside sprinkles, summer reading is a lifestyle, and this is how you do it right.

Morning
You wake up at 10:00 am in a sea of pillows and plotlines, not because you are lazy or anything but because you stayed up till 3:00 in the morning to read your book. Who said if you like reading, you can’t get beauty sleep? Not me. The sun is overflowing through your blinds as if to read over your shoulder—who wouldn’t do that? Bam! You’re right back into the game when you open “Are You Kidding Me” by Lesley Crewe to finish that last chapter you were reading before you dozed off. Your main character energy is fully engaged. You haven’t even brushed your teeth, but you realize you have other priorities. Right? It’s barely 11:00 am, and you’ve already lived five different lives; now that's productivity.
Afternoon
It's time for some brunch! Now, you can go two ways with this. The first is more of a lazy route. If you are truly interested in your book (which I hope everyone is), it’s such a bummer to read a tasteless and boring book in the summer. Back to the first path—a handful of pretzels washed down with some coffee or tea (preferably tea). When you think about it, it’s a balanced meal. The second is for more of the aesthetic Pinterest addict: a cute picnic with a three-course meal with a linen blanket and sunglasses you definitely won’t wear. You pull out “Nosy Parker” by Lesley Crewe and feast.
Evening
Now that you are nourished, you spot a local bookstore on your way to get an iced coffee. Shoot! You have to go in because you have an obligation as a reader to visit every book-related place you see. You swear you were just browsing, not committing to anything; it turns out there’s a sale and a lovely limited edition just calling your name. How can you resist not claiming it yours? So, in turn, you do, and your to-be-read pile rolls its eyes from your Goodreads. You’re only human, okay?
The heat is giving a character meltdown, so what do you do? Grab a popsicle and cue up an audiobook. With a mysterious and unbothered energy, you walk around the block even though you’re at the climax part of the book and your soul is about to shatter into eighty-seven different pieces. You’re sweating and sniffling. That’s some drama.
Night
At last, you finally made it to the end of the day. Don’t worry, fellow readers, the night is just getting started. You crack open a fresh book, and its scent fills your mind and soul. Your fairy lights are on, your blanket is cozy, your pillow is cold on both sides, and you think to yourself, “Isn’t this what life is all about?” Your twenty-minute night reading turns into two hours, then five hours, until the sun finally rises again. Yikes! You are clutching your book in your arms like it hurt you (which it did) and think, “What now?” What is time really when you are in the mind of a fictional character and behind on sleep?
You bookworms have just mastered the day!
Not everyone gets it—but you do.
